Research Infrastructure

The Research staff of the Physics Laboratory is actively involved in the research efforts of large Particle and Astroparticle Physics Experiments keeping abreast of current developments in their scientific field. The Laboratory Research Infrastructure provides instrumentation and  technological tools for DAQ Development, Particle Detector and RF antennas developments, as well as High Performance Computing including Massive Monte Carlo production and CPU intensive data analysis techniques. 

DAQ development

The Physics Laboratory is equipped with the necessary instrumentation for fast digitization and the development of Data Acquisition Systems. These include High Bandwidth Digital Oscilloscopes, VME and NIM modules, custom-made digitization boards, Waveform and Signal Generators, handheld devices and PC based control units etc.

Detector development

The Physics Laboratory is equipped with the necessary instrumentation and automated data acquisition system for the characterization and testing Photomultiplier tubes, the development of large  scintillator particle detectors and RF antennas, as well as development and testing of gaseous detectors used for tracking and calorimetry.

high performance computing

The Physics Laboratory of HOU has developed Simulation and Reconstruction Software for Particle Physics Experiments,  Neutrino Telescopy and for the study of High Energy Cosmic Rays. Massive production of Monte Carlo datasets as well as the application of CPU intensive data analysis techniques is accomplished by the High Performance Computing System of the HOU Physics Laboratory (HPC-HOU).
