Research Activities
The research activities of the Physics Laboratory span across a diversity of topics including Detector Physics and Instrumentation, Data Acquisition design and integration, Monte Carlo Simulation, Signal Processing and Data Analysis as well as Educational Technology and Physics Education. The Physics Laboratory contributes to the research efforts of international and national collaborations in the field of Particle and Astroparticle Physics. Specifically, the Physics Laboratory:
- Participates in the ATLAS experiment at the LHC accelerator in CERN, studying the fundamental constituents of matter and their interactions as well as searching for New Physics.
- Participates in the European Consortium of Universities and Research Centers for the deployment of a large (cubic kilometer) underwater neutrino telescope, KM3NeT.
- Leads the efforts for the study of High Energy Cosmic Rays using the Hellenic Open University Cosmic Ray telescope, Astroneu.
- Leads the efforts for the deployment of μNet, an extended network of educational cosmic ray telescopes and remotely operated detector devices in the geographical area of Peloponnese.
